I wouldn't consider myself an expert in technology but I grew up knowing how to work phones and tablets which helped me learn how to troubleshoot simple problems. I can also manage to work my way around websites and find the necessary resources to aid in my assignments.
In my 3rd year practicum classroom, we use Google Classroom to help parents and/or guardians connect with our classroom. My MT creates a blog, we write in our morning routine, to remind the students' adults about homework, upcoming field trips or interviews, or general announcements. This is also used to present to adults about anything that we have done in class.
One "burning question that I have about the use of digital technologies in K to 9 education is; How are teachers who aren't as digitally skilled supported so that they can navigate around any technologies used in their classroom?
This question is important to me, as someone who is nervous about encountering new technologies. I think this especially since there are more advancements in technologies being used in the classroom, I wonder how I am able to be on top of learning these new programs while managing a classroom filled with students and their adults who may also have not come across these technologies as well.

Maddie, I really enjoyed reading your blog! I didn't know how helpful Google Classroom can be, especially for communication with parents. Your question is one I hadn't thought of before! Professional development for the teachers using technology is essential to ensuring we provide our students with the most effective and engaging lessons possible! I completely agree - new technology is definitely intimidating but I am super excited to learn about this with everyone!
ReplyDeleteMaddie, I really appreciate your honesty about your comfortability with technology. I really like how your classroom uses google classroom for communication with parents, what a lovely tool! Throwback to the days we used to get coloured newsletters, oh what a time! I really like the question you have brought forward because I wonder the same, I am not strong in using technology so I wonder what it would look like when we have our classroom of our own! We will embark on our technology journey together! x Ms. Bro😃
